For our guests I must serve croissants for breakfast! Some good bread, butter and jelly would be great too. I go to the bakery I’ve tried one other time. It’s not terrible but not my idea of great croissants and bread. So it’s my mission to find the best croissants and bread in Servian! It won’t take long; there are only 3 bakeries in the village.
The Donovans say they slept very well–maybe even better than at home. The shutters on the windows help–the noise and light are greatly reduced.
We take a short drive and stop in nearby Pézenas for a stroll. Pézenas is a very picturesque village. We stayed nearby in 2000 and really enjoyed this pretty little town.
The dogs are with us and Toby is a pill–barking and lunging at other dogs. He gets the other two worked up. It’s very stressful. But a few people point and grin or stop us to ask about the missing “pates” (legs) and can’t believe we have TWO 3-legged dogs. One man in a city truck is saying all sorts of things to me that I cannot understand. But he keeps giving me the “thumbs up” sign so I guess he is saying nice things.
Then on to the waterside village of Marseillan for a seafood lunch. We go straight to the restaurant we’ve been to several times before: Taverne du Port (Tavern at the Port). And it is right at the marina. We start with an apéritif of Noilly Prat Blanc (a dry vermouth made just across the marina from the restaurant). The very best oysters I ever had were here! So we order a half dozen as a first course along with DELICIOUS wild shrimp. I wish I had a huge bowl of those boys! Our main course is pan-fried fish; the Donovans order a type of flounder and Howard and I have Dorade, a type of rock fish found in the Mediterranean. As we wait for our main course, Toby is whining like crazy. I think he must need to relieve himself. Howard says he is just being a jerk. I get up to take him for a quick walk just as our fish arrives. So I rush him around a couple of corners but he does not “go.” The poor guy, after we leave the restaurant he takes the longest leak I’ve ever seen!
After we return to Servian, the Donovans and I take a walk around town. We visit the modest church and later we hear the choir practicing for Palm Sunday tomorrow. We take a stroll through the cemetery.
It was a very nice day if you don’t count the dogs.
