Wow–it’s June! I am up and about before 7am to go to town for croissants. I don’t know what’s going on with Madame Baker but the croissants have not been good lately. It’s very disappointing especially since there is no one else that makes good croissants.
Then off to the super market at 9am. The favorites I look for are blood orange juice and Mammie Nova yogurt. I get a little annoyed by the sales lady because she does not understand what I am saying to her. It CANNOT be that I am not speaking French well!!!
Howard prepares a perfect duck breast; pasta with a sauce of cherry tomatoes, shallots and fresh herbs from the garden; haricot vertes (thin green beans) with prosciutto and shallots. We had a red wine from Mas Cristine in my honor.

I’ve opened the front and back doors. The dogs wander between the two terraces lying in the sun or absorbed in the activities in the street in front. They seem to be quiet in their attention.
Maya Angelou died May 28. What a great lady! At the beginning of our marriage we took trips to Sonama and stayed at the Sonoma Hotel in the “Maya Angelou room.” She wrote “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” in that room. The hotel was cheap and the bath was down the hall. There was no air conditioning and we spent a particularly hot summer vacation there. Howard read her first book in that room
I am reading that first book now and I encourage anyone reading this blog to do the same.
The dogs are cute on the front terrace as they intently watch all the goings-on in the street below.

We have a welcomed lazy day. Howard fixes sausages and fried potatoes.
